Anaheim, CA — Despite the Los Angeles Angels 10-7 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium, one of the few bright spots for the team was Brian Goodwin’s tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Goodwin connected on a 409 foot solo homer to center that gave the Angels a 4-1 lead. As Goodwin rounded the bases he was spotted wearing one yellow cleat that represented for Bryant and a blue cleat that represented for Hussle.
Both Los Angeles legends were savagely killed in a one year span. Hussle was murdered in front of his Marathon Clothing Store back on March 31 by gunman Eric Holder. Holder is still awaiting trial. On January 26 of this year, Bryant along with his daughter Gianna and seven other passengers were killed in a helicopter crash near Calabasas.
Goodwin represented not only for Bryant and Hussle, but continues to be stand up voice in the social justice lifestyle and making sure we never the fight against racism, inequality, and justice continue.
That fifth inning home run was the first of the season for Goodwin. He recorded fifth career game with at least 3 RBI and first since April 15, 2019 against the Rangers. Goodwin also added a go-ahead two-RBI double in the 6th inning.
The Angels face the Mariners at 6:40PM PT at Angel Stadium on Thursday.
