CHICAGO, IL — Very fitting in his hometown of Chicago that Anthony Davis made one of his two free throws, that gave Team Lebron the 157-155 victory over Team Giannis on Sunday night in front of a sold out crowd at United Center.
Davis kept every one on the edge of their seats when he was fouled on a holding call against Kyle Lowry, missing the first free throw. With the game on the line, Davis knocked the second free throw for the win.
“I told my team I was going to miss the first one to put a little more pressure on myself here at home,” Davis told TNT jokingly after the game.
This year the All-Star format changed as the winning team of each quarter won $100,000 for the chosen Chicago charity. Team LeBron won the first quarter 53-41, however Team Giannis won the second quarter 51-30. The third quarter ended in a tie, which made the fourth quarter incredibly compelling and competitive.
Team LeBron’s raised $400,000 for Chicago Scholars, and Team Giannis raised $100,000 for After School Matters program.
Davis finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, and LeBron James finished with 23 points, six rebounds. Kawhi Leonard led all scorers with 30 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Chris Paul who had a monster fourth quarter added 23 points in the victory.
Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Kemba Walker who had a hot hand in the final quarter finished with 22 points in the loss.
The game opened up with Magic Johnson giving a great tribute speech for former NBA Commissioner David Stern and the late great Kobe Bryant.
Superstar singer and Chicago native Jennifer Hudson sang a very moving tribute to Kobe Bryant along with rapper and actor Common.
