LOS ANGELES — We all have three things in this world, your heart, your word, and your name. Many want to make their name great at some point by doing something impactful.
While everyone was focused on names like Todd Gurley, and Zeke Elliott when it came to the Dallas Cowboys facing the Los Angeles Rams in a divisional playoff game, there was one important name that many overlooked. His name is Anderson — Cortrelle Javon (CJ) Anderson, running back for the Rams.
Many in Los Angeles started to become accustomed to who he is, especially after his monstrous two games, where he scored two touchdowns and racked up a total of 299 yards.
Saturday night at the Los Angeles Coliseum and in front of millions around the nation, CJ Anderson’s name is not only trending on social media, but people are recognizing the Rams RB.
Anderson made his mark against the NFC East winning Dallas Cowboys, and punished the defense every chance he ran the ball. As Anderson and Gurley took turns racking up yards and touchdowns, the Rams knew they had a powerful player not just on the field but off the field as well. Nothing is more powerful than mindset and determination that stems from that mindset.
“I think C.J.’s done a great job since he’s gotten here and then, obviously, we know what a special player Todd [Gurley] is,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said postgame. “We thought it was going to be able to be a nice complement. If you told me that it was going to work out as well as it did tonight [Saturday night], I don’t know that I would’ve said that, but the guys did a great job. I think they are a nice complement to each other. C.J. leveled some things off and it was good just to get Todd back.”
Anderson was cut by three different teams, and in the words of Emory Jones from RocNation, Anderson bet on himself.
As did the Rams, and this time the bet paid large dividends. The Rams captured their first playoff win under Sean McVay, but some of the credit has to go to the powerful running nature of Anderson.
Rams move on to face a tough Saints in New Orleans in the NFC Championship on Sunday, having a great insurance policy like Gurley and Anderson is everything when it’s all on the line.
