INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Los Angeles Sparks are on the road until their home opener against the Minnesota Lynx. The team is embracing their five-game road trip with two big wins to start the season.
The Sparks were in Indiana facing the Fever on Sunday. The Fever sped up the pace of the game hitting 10 three-pointers, while the Sparks had just one. Although the Sparks pulled out the win 87-77, the team started to look winded later in the game.
Head coach/GM Derek Fisher says it’s important that he and his staff make sure the veterans are getting enough minutes to help the team secure the win while at the same time noticing any signs of fatigue
“It’s going to take us a while to build up a level of game conditioning to win at the highest level,” Fisher said.
Fisher believes getting up to game speed is difficult when on the road with the lack of practice and constant travel. That didn’t stop center Liz Cambage from leading the team in scoring and posting her first double-double of the season.
Cambage scored 22 points in 22 minutes of play. She also had 11 rebounds, was 8-of-11 from the floor, and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. While she led the team in scoring, she also admitted the pace of this game was a struggle.
“Them young girls is quick,” said Cambage.
She went on to say the pace was, “a bit of a shock to the system.” However, Cambage does not seem too worried as she said they have games to play and she will get her wind back.
The Sparks head to Atlanta to face the Dream on Wednesday, May 11th at 4 p.m. PST.
