THOUSAND OAKS, CA — Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey has put on his “GM hat” as of late in order to help the team acquire two massive names in Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr.. Ramsey used his relationships and ability in recruiting players to the Rams, like Suge Knight recruiting artist to Death Row Records at the 1995 Source Awards, without throwing shade to other teams.
Relationship are key in any part of life whether it be for sport or business and this a time where Ramsey was able to assist upper manager and come through in the clutch.
“I want to be teammates with anybody who I feel is good,” Ramsey said on Friday. “And then just try to make it happen, I guess. Just trying to speak it into existence and make it happen. And then once it like really, really almost became reality, then I had to close the deal for sure.”
The ability of Ramsey has shown on the field this season is unmatched, however what he’s able to do off the field has differently helped change the culture for the better for a franchise that already has a superb culture in place.
Rams defense coordinator made a great comparison between Lakers star Lebron James and Ramsey on their respective impacts on teams.
“I just know when you’re a really good football player, great football player like Jalen, you have great relationships with everybody across the league from a respect standpoint,” Morris said. “And when you have that type of respect from your peers, it’s always going to help out when it comes to communication with these players. It’s the basketball model.
“LeBron James didn’t only just recruit people, he moved people to different cities. He was able to move different cities, take different cultures, form cultures wherever he went. Jalen Ramsey is that type of a guy.“
Ramsey also saw a lot of Beckham in himself with a relationship that stems back to their college days.
“He reminds me of, like myself, but like offensively. Just his mentality, his will and ambition to be great. So knowing him and his ambition to win and being the best, usually those type of guys like being surrounded by guys like that.”
Ramsey has no desire to be a team general manager in the future for any team, if anything he would look to be a high school football coach leading teams to state championship victories once his NFL career is over. He’s definitely been a significant help in the Rams landing two big players, it’s time for them to put it all together which will happen over time. From being one of the top corners in the league to landing players, Ramsey can do it all.
Beckham’s status for Monday night remains uncertain for the Rams and had not practiced on Friday according to a team spokesman.
With Miller and Beckham in place, Ramsey and the Rams can continue to focus on their big game against the rival San Francisco 49ers on Monday night at Levi’s Stadium.
