COSTA MESA, CA — New beginnings and a new era for the Los Angeles Chargers especially at quarterback as the team waived goodbye to Philip Rivers in the off season, drafted Justin Herbert (Oregon), and Tyrod Taylor has the starting role in his palm.

“I always had the mindset to prepare like a starter,” Taylor said. “So, regardless of the circumstances, that’s how I stay mentally in it and that’s how I prepare myself mentally.”

Taylor has always had the mindset of a starter regardless, and continues to prepare as one each and every year. He revealed he was unfazed at the team drafting Herbert in the first round, yet has such a great relationship with head coach Anthony Lynn. Lynn and Taylor go back to the days in Buffalo when Taylor was a starting quarterback there and Lynn was an assistant coach.

He hasn’t started in a couple of years and he’s going to get that opportunity this year,” Lynn said. “I think he’s gonna be just fine.

Taylor has put in the work in the off season as he enters the final year of his two-year, $11 million contract.

As Taylor prepares himself for this season, he’s not closed off for information to Justin Herbert to learn on the sidelines. His focus is to ensure he helps this team get wins and find a way to bring a championship to Los Angeles.

In previous times with the Bills and Browns, Taylor was thrusted out of his starting spots in favor of Nathan Peterman and Baker Mayfield. This time with the Chargers he stated he can only control what he can.

Moving forward to this one, whether it’s viewed as the same circumstances, I focus on what I can control, and that’s me bringing my ‘A’ game each and every day, being a leader and bringing great energy towards the building,” Taylor said.

With a week of Training Camp under his belt, Taylor looks to continue to connect with his teammates and be ready for the first game of the 2020 season against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
