LOS ANGELES — After several years of talking about and knowing why former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been on a team roster in over three seasons, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was open to the idea of bringing the quarterback in for a serious workout during a call with the media on Wednesday morning.

He fits the style of quarterback that we want,” Lynn said. We’re happy with the three quarterbacks that we want but you can’t have enough on the runway.”

Kaepernick was subsequently blackballed by the league and many owners after he took a knee during the national anthem to protest racism, police brutality and injustice in this country.

No talks between Kaepernick’s representatives and the Chargers have been made as of yet, however Lynn is confident that he still has the skill set to play in the NFL.

“I haven’t spoken with Colin, not sure where he’s at as far in his career, what he wants to do,” Lynn said.

The Chargers do have room for another quarterback on the roster with Tyrod Taylor, Justin Herbert and Easton Stick. Herbert who was drafted with the number sixth pick in the first round is not ready to start, and if any injury were to take place with Taylor, the team would need an experienced quarterback to get them over the hump during the season.

The Bolts are the first team to publicly spark interest in the 32-year old quarterback since the public statement by the NFL regarding systemic racism, oppression and their plans to fight against it.

This is an opportunity that is long overdue, and it’s great to see Lynn extend his hand to assist in the process of writing the wrongs that had taken place with Kaepernick. Lynn looks to be giving a legit chance for Kaepernick to get back on the field.

Time will reveal, if we see the day where Kaepernick will suit up this season for the Chargers or another NFL team. Lynn starting the conversation is a step in a better direction than we saw four years ago on the sidelines.
