CARSON, CA – The Denver Broncos defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon 20-13 at Dignity Health Sports Park to capture their first win and division win of the season.
The Chargers (2-3) were out of sync offensively majority of the game and didn’t score a offensive touchdown the entire game.
The Broncos jumped to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, and took a 17-0 lead into halftime.
After the Chargers defense kept the team in the game, Los Angeles failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity trailing 17-10 midway through the fourth quarter. The offense failed once to convert on several plays to score.
Broncos running back Philip Lindsay finished with 147 yards total with 15 carries and a touchdown, iced the game with quality runs of 32 yards and 13 yards that set up kicker Brandon McManus for the field goal that insured the Broncos victory late in the fourth quarter.
Although the Chargers kicker Chase McLaughlin kicked a field goal that brought the Bolts back within a touchdown. However as time wound down and Denver recovered an onside kick, the Broncos celebrated took their victory lap.
This was probably the worst performance we’ve seen from the Chargers offense this season. So much so that head coach Anthony Lynn apologized to the media in his opening statements post game.
“Sorry to keep you good people waiting, and sorry for watching that damn game. We play like that, we won’t beat anybody.“
The Bolts have their work cut out for them, as they must go back to the drawing board and fix the offense. Especially after failing to convert in the end zone on two occasions. Philip Rivers finished with 211 yards and two interceptions was visibly disappointed.
“We just didn’t capitalize and finish, and we turned the ball over,” Rivers said.
Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco finished with 182 yards passing, with one touchdown and one interception.
The Chargers will prepare and face the Pittsburgh Steelers into town on Sunday at 5:20PM at Dignity Health Sports Park.
