COSTA MESA, CA – The Chargers dropped a bombshell in the form of releasing offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt on Monday night.

Whisenhunt served as the Chargers offensive coordinator since 2016 and had worked closely with quarterback Philip Rivers. However this season with the team’s record of 3-5 and the offense ranked 23rd in the NFL, something had to change and Whisenhunt had be the one to exit.

This is not an easy decision and definitely not one that I take lightly,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said in a statement. “You win as a team, and you lose as a team. It’s never about just one person. At the end of the day, however, I simply felt a change was needed at this time. I want to thank Ken for his years of service to the Chargers organization and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Quarterback coach Shane Steichen will handle play-calling duties and offensive line Coach Pat Meyer will coordinate run game for Chargers. Anthony Lynn will oversee that process for the remainder of the season.
