ORLANDO, FL — Lou Williams at one point was 50/50 on if he would join his teammates in Orlando for the restart of the season, due to concerns of players not having their voices heard during the time of taking a stand against social injustice, racism, etc.

Williams explained that the team decided together if they will all go, or no one would join the bubble in Orlando.

Williams was happy that he works for a league that listens to it’s athletes on serious matters such as these that we are facing in our country today.

I’m happy to know that I work for a company that stands alongside of the minorities in this country and wants to make a bold statement like that,” Williams said.

Obviously they have a lot of sponsors and everything … and some people may not feel that way. But I thought it was important for the NBA to listen to the players and listen to our voices and put the things in motion that we felt strongly about and stand next to us with those issues.”

With the tall task of helping the team accomplish a goal of capturing it’s first championship, Williams will also make sure he continues to bring serious issues of equality to the forefront. Making sure his presence is felt on and off the court is not only important to Williams but the rest of his teammates, coaches and the rest of the league.

I thought it was important for the NBA to listen to the players and listen to our voices and put the things in motion that we felt strongly about and stand next to us with those issues,” Williams said.

Williams like many others are using their platforms for positive movement and progression in our society and should be commended not condemned for their beliefs. Many talk, but Williams is one of those individuals that is about action and keeping the focus right where it needs to be…. on knocking down the walls of systemic and institutionalized racism and oppression.
