PLAYA VISTA, CA – It was announced on Thursday morning that the Los Angeles Clippers offered Paul George a a new extension worth $226 million over the next five years, according his agent Aaron Mintz of CAA. It’s $190 million on top of the $35.4 million guaranteed him in the 2020-2021 season. George will have a new player option before the 2024-2025 season.

Late last week George said that the Clippers were an organization that he liked a lot, and he wanted to retire with the franchise.

This is an important moment for our franchise and our fans, to secure a long-term commitment from one of the premier two-way players in the NBA,” President of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said. “We aspire to create a destination for players, an environment where they can succeed and enjoy their success. We’re delighted by Paul’s pride in representing Clippers fans, honored that he trusts the organization with this chapter of his career, and share in his relentless pursuit of championships.

The Clippers look to rebuild and reshift their focus onto this season and accomplish their goal of making an appearance in the Western Conference Finals and ultimately winning a championship. With the departure of former head coach Doc Rivers, a fresh energy that has been described by the players in new head coach Ty Lue should improve with some relationships.

George said that he spoke with Lue on how effectively he will be used this season in the new offense.

He can play on or off the ball. He can score in a variety of different ways. And he can guard almost every position on the court. I’m thrilled we can continue to build with PG,” Lue said.

George now has a new season to focus on and for the first time in a Clippers uniform he’s healthy to start Training Camp. Something he didn’t experience coming into last season as he was healing from shoulder surgery. This season he intends on making Clipper fans believers and making the 6-6-1 (Palmdale’s area code) proud to watch him.

As a kid growing up in Southern California, I always dreamed of playing in Los Angeles, where my friends and family could come watch me play,” said George. “I am so grateful to Steve Ballmer, Lawrence Frank, Coach Ty Lue, my teammates, and the entire Clippers organization for believing in me. I am proud to call this my home and look forward to doing my part in helping make the team a tremendous success – both on and off the court – in the years ahead.”

So now with the new deal what does George owe the Clippers in return if anything?

I owe them a trophy,” George said at his press conference from his home.

The Clippers face the Lakers in an opening pre-season game on Friday night at Staples Center.
