BOSTON, MA — Kyle Tucker of the Chicago Cubs and Alex Bregman of the Boston Red Sox have been named the National League and American League Players of the Week, respectively, as presented by Chevrolet.
The announcements were revealed today on MLB Network in a week that saw stunning achievements from these 10 standouts.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker is in his sixth season, and he did receive his first career weekly award. Last week, Tucker was 4 for 4 with a. 391 (9-for-23), 3 HR, 8 RBI, 3 2B, and 8 BB in six game’s on-base percentage of 548 and a slugging percentage of .548. Tucker led the National League in runs, slugging, on-base percentage and OPS.
Tucker, from Tampa, Fla., matched his career high with four hits as the A’s were blasted 18-3 in Sacramento. Staying true to form, he also hit his fourth home run in as many games, which is also a career-high. Tucker scored in five of his six games, reaching safely in all five and in each game in the week, which helped contribute positively to the Cubs’ offensive lineup.
In the American League, the Boston Red Sox, Alex Bregman earned his fourth career Player of the Week award. Bregman posted a. 407 (11-for-27) with two home runs, 10 RBI, five doubles and a terrific. 815 slugging percentage during the six games. The native of Albuquerque led the Major Leagues in hits and extra-base hits, also underscoring his versatility and power at the plate.
Among Bregman’s highlights was a resounding performance on Sunday Night Baseball, where he went 4-for-5 with six runs driven in on a three-run home run and two doubles at Fenway Park. Those accomplishments were the most by a Red Sox player since his teammate Ceddanne Rafaela did it a season ago.
While Tucker and Bregman have been valuable players for their respective squads, providing fundamental contributions, the former and latter have stepped up on the biggest stage and made the rest of the league feel their impact. With the season barely starting, the whole league will watch these two as they show what has made them dominant with their talent and determination.
Cincinnati Reds star Elly De La Cruz claims the Play of the Week with a long run and sliding catch.
