“My expectation for myself is very high this year, especially regarding the season,” Shelby told Nitecast Media.
His vision of greatness revolves around being a dependable leader. “Being that leader, being a person my teammates can depend on, and going out there and executing every single play to perfection, being more efficient, more consistent,” he emphasized.
Shelby’s approach to defense this season reflects a shift toward unity and synergy within the team. “I’ll say just the overall like of us coming together. We way more acting as one unit, one team. If someone’s lacking, man, picking them right back up.“

“Just getting to the point where you’re playing so naturally and so fast that like, it doesn’t even take effort almost,” Shelby explained.
Shelby also prioritizes building a strong bond with Defensive Coordinator Coach D’Anton Lynn.
“We’re just talking, chopping it up with Lynn all the time, trying to pick his brain. He’s a very smart guy, very technical when calling defenses,” he said.
By understanding Lynn’s strategies and expectations, Shelby ensures he and his teammates execute effectively and in sync.
For Shelby, the film room is an invaluable resource.
“Being able to break down the film that you just did, going in there, that has allowed me to see what I need to work on, what I need to focus on.“
