DALLAS, TX — The Dallas Cowboys defense completed an incredible job by shutting down the visiting New York Jets in the second half from scoring in enroute to a 30-10 victory in the team’s home opener on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is still playing at a high level in his 9th season with the Dallas Cowboys.
Former Dallas quarterback-turned-CBS broadcaster Tony Romo agrees, especially after Lawrence blew up New York Jets running back Breece Hall’s first run attempt for a loss of four yards in the first quarter. Romo praised his former teammate for his consistency on the Cowboys’ defensive line.
“Lawerence is still playing at an incredibly a high level; he has done it for many years,” said Romo during the telecast.
Lawrence isn’t in it the compliments either; his focus is on playing at a high level and helping his team win games.
“I don’t pay no attention to that. I’m out there to do my job,” Lawrence told the Dallas Morning News about tide-ends attempting to block him.
“We’ve got a saying in our locker room. If you line up, you get f—– up. So, it doesn’t matter. Whoever it is, they line up, you know the rest,” Lawrence continued.
Later in their Week 2 showdown against the Jets, Lawrence was able to tip a pass from quarterback Zach Wilson intended for Garrett Wilson and forced New York to kick a field goal right before halftime.
Lawrence would finish the game with two tackles as the Cowboys would go on to beat the Jets 30-10 in their season home opener at AT&T Stadium improving to 2-0 in this young season.
Next up for Dallas in Week 3 are the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ on Sunday at 1:25PM PT.
