COSTA MESA, CA — Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James suffered a terrible blow as he suffered a fracture to his left foot during the joint practice with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday. It was announced on Saturday that James’ injury will require surgery and he’ll be out at least 3 months.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the surgery will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson. The team hopes he will return late in the season and be ready for postseason play.
James showed up to day two of the joint practice wearing a boot. He had an outstanding rookie campaign recording 105 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and 3 interceptions. James remains optimistic, and according to head coach Anthony Lynn, the team will have to roll with the next man up.
