LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers have opened the 2025 season with an impressive 6-0 record, matching the best start in a season in franchise history (dating back to opening day 1958 in Los Angeles ). The only other team to accomplish that amazing feat was the 1981 squad, which opened the season winning its first six games before eventually winning the World Series that year.
Right-handed starter Tyler Glasnow enjoyed a highlight-reel first game of the season. He deftly moved through the game, not allowing a hit until the fifth inning, when Jarred Kelenic broke through. Glasnow dominated in the first frame and fanned eight hitters over his first five innings. He finished with a nice outing and just 79 pitches on the night.
After changing his training regimen, Glasnow avoided weighted balls in favor of a more traditional long-toss approach. His decision has paid dividends in his performance. “It was good, and I felt really in sync, especially in that first inning,” Glasnow said. “I think having that curveball helped me.”
It was Glasnow’s first regular-season start since Aug. 11 of last year, after he sat out the entire postseason.
“It was awesome. It’s just good to be home, pitching at Dodger Stadium. The energy is just unmatched. It was cool, walking out in the first inning and taking hold of the ball.”
The Dodgers offered plenty of run support, starting when Teoscar Hernández hit a two-run homer in the first inning. The team extended their lead to 4-0 in the third when Michael Conforto added an RBI double, followed by Tommy Edman’s sacrifice fly. Catcher Will Smith added an RBI single in the fifth inning.
The only bright spot for the Braves came in the form of a solo home run in the eighth inning by Michael Harris II, which spared them from being shut out.
Look for the season to play out as the Dodgers continue to reap the benefits of their record start. The Glasnow pitching and potent offense will lead to an exciting journey on future horizons.
