LOS ANGELES, CA — On a warm Friday afternoon it was officially baseball season in Los Angeles, as fans entered the gates at Dodger Stadium for the first time in over a year. Manager Dave Roberts along with the players received their championship rings presented to everyone from Stan Kasten and President of baseball Operations Andrew Friedman.
Fans cheered loudly for the Southern California born player from Long Beach in Justin Turner as he received his ring.
Turner connected on a solo homer to center in the sixth inning, that wound up giving the Dodgers the 1-0 victory over the Washington Nationals.
“Today was a big day for me personally,” said Turner. “I felt like it was the first real time I got to get out there on the line with my teammates and enjoy the championship and celebrate the ring. And especially to do it with fans in the stands made it even more special.”
If you recall in the World Series, Turner was a significant contributor who was yanked in the eight inning due to a positive COVID-19 test. He broke MLB’s health and safety protocols by returning to the field to celebrate with his teammates.
Turner would not be denied on writing his own narrative and a very sweet chapter written by the heart and soul of the team.
“Today was a good for me personally, it’s the first real time I got a chance to get on the line with my teammates,” Turner said. “To enjoy this and celebrate the ring and especially doing it with fans in the stands that makes it more special.”
The Dodgers face the Washington Nationals on Saturday evening as the team honor the late great Tommy Lasorda before the game.
