LAS VEGAS, NV — In a recent interview on “The NH Experience” one half of the Dogg Pound duo, Kurupt detailed studio sessions that kept him sharp as a rapper during ‘the golden era’ of hip-hop. Kurupt recalled recording sessions that featured Kxng Crooked (formerly known as Crooked I), Techniec and the late Bad Azz of the LBC Crew, Goldie Loc, as one member of the crew stood out and reminded him of a hip hop legend.
“The youth came (later) and kept you on your ten toes. So I was surrounded by people who helped me bring the best out of myself,” Kurupt explained. “Every time we got on the mic it was a friendly competition. Tray Deee was the one that struck me out of the blue… he was just incredible. I call Tray Deee the west coast Rakim!”
Kurupt went on to explain the song that caught his attention and really allowed him to appreciate the lyricism of Tray Deee and what he represents to the genre of hip hop. Kurupt would also breakdown the styles of Techniec and the late Bad Azz, Kxng Crooked, Bishop Lamont, The DOC, The Lady of Rage, RBX and more in this insightful interview.
