EL SEGUNDO, CA – The LA Sparks training camp is now in full swing. As the team tries to reduce their roster to 12, the focus is building team chemistry.
Newly acquired guard Lexie Brown says while she understands that a lot of WNBA players bounce from team to team until they find the perfect fit, she is excited to join the Sparks and begin building with her teammates.
“The vibe, the environment, the energy is great for me here,” said Brown.
She’s also enjoying working with head coach/GM Derek Fisher saying, “the way he coaches, the way he teaches. I think our basketball IQs align with each other really well.”
Brown believes she can immediately impact the team.
“I think they are in desperate need of a shooter. So I’m really excited to be able to slide in and help any way I can,” she said.
While the team is focused on building chemistry, Fisher is also focused on building a culture that is more than just winning.
“When people see the LA Sparks jerseys, brand, (and) colors, young girls of color and women all over the world take a sense a pride in how we operate and how we do things,” Fisher said.
He went on to say he wants the players to impact the community and change Los Angeles for young girls off the court.
“Right now we’re grateful to have the responsibility of building what our culture is supposed to look like,” Fisher continued.
The Sparks head out on the road for their first preseason game of the year. They will face the Seattle Storm on Saturday, April 23rd at 6:00 PM PST.
