LOS ANGELES – The 2022 Superbowl Halftime Show is gearing up to be a true celebration of hip-hop, as five of the genre’s most legendary and prolific artists are set to join forces for one epic performance.
On Thursday, the NFL, Pepsi and Roc Nation announced that Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar will take the stage at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on Feb. 13 for Super Bowl LVI.
These five musical icons have combined to win 43 Grammys and released 19 No.1 Billboard albums.
According to the NFL, this performance will mark the first time that all five artists have performed together. This also marks the third halftime show collaboration between Pepsi, the NFL and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
They also produced last year’s performance by The Weeknd and the 2020 halftime show collaboration between Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
“This is the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. This is history in the making,” Jay-Z said in a statement.
For West Coast natives Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar, this will surely be a celebration of where it all began.
“The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my life,” Dr. Dre said in a statement via the NFL. “I’m grateful to Jay-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment.
“The fact that the NFL, Pepsi are allowing hip hop to come into this game, I’m just so honored and so inspired to come in and do this show.“
This will also be a special night for the city of Los Angeles, as they host the Super Bowl for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show will air live on NBC and Telemundo and will be available to stream on Peacock.
“Everybody around the whole world is going to get a chance to see why Dr. Dre is the greatest at what he does and how he assembled a strong team of people like us to get his back and support him,” Snoop Dogg said.
