NEW ORLEANS, LA — Joe McKnight, whose illustrious athletic journey took him from the fields of John Curtis Christian School to the grandeur of the NFL, is set to receive one of the highest honors in local sports. The Allstate Sugar Bowl’s New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will welcome McKnight as one of its newest inductees, celebrating a career marked by exceptional talent and remarkable achievements.
At John Curtis Christian School, McKnight emerged as a football prodigy, etching his name in the school’s storied history annals. During his senior year, McKnight’s prowess on the field was undeniable. He racked up staggering statistics, rushing for 719 yards on just 45 carries—averaging an incredible 16.0 yards per carry—and scoring 14 touchdowns.
His versatility shone through with an additional 24 receptions totaling 735 yards and 13 touchdowns, along with three special teams scores. Under his dynamic leadership, the Patriots secured a perfect 14-0 season, culminating in back-to-back state championships.
Following his high school success, McKnight took his talents to the University of Southern California (USC), where he continued to excel. Over three seasons, he amassed 2,213 rushing yards on 347 carries and achieved 13 touchdowns. His performance placed him second in USC history for career yards per carry at 6.38, a testament to his agile and explosive style of play. McKnight also contributed as a receiver, with 66 catches for 542 yards and two touchdowns, highlighting his all-around offensive capabilities.

McKnight’s excellence extended to the professional arena when he was drafted by the New York Jets. Over his four-year NFL career, he continued to demonstrate the skill and versatility that had defined his earlier years, leaving an indelible mark on the league.
In 2025, McKnight will be one of four distinguished local sports figures to be inducted into the New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame. This honor will commemorate his outstanding contributions on the field and immortalize his legacy in the pantheon of New Orleans sports legends.
