EL SEGUNDO, CA – The 2019 Lakers Media Day kicked off in full swing with LeBron James, Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Danny Green, Quinn Cook, new head coach Frank Vogel, and of course Anthony Davis. Davis was finally traded in the off season from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Lakers.

This was his first Lakers media day but would it be his last since Davis is a free agent at the end of this season? Davis could decline the $28.8 million player option where he can test the open market as a free agent.

Though he is currently happy to be in Los Angeles, when asked about his future with the franchise, Davis addressed that topic quickly.

“I just want to focus on this year,” Davis explained. “Coming here, the Lakers definitely welcomed me with open arms and made this feel like home. But at the same time, we’re focused on this year.

Davis is a top 10 player in the NBA with his unique skill set and an appetite for defense, he could definitely be the player that could get the Lakers over the hump and deep into the playoffs. Davis has never been past the first round of the playoffs in his career. To that point, Davis never had a top notch player and future Hall of Famer in James to play along with either.

Last season, Davis averaged 25.9 points, 12 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 blocks in 56 games. He also shot approximately 52% from the field.

Both James and Davis are excited to play with each other, both are represented by Klutch Sports and Rich Paul, and both have a hunger to bring the Lakers their 17th championship.
