Is Ole Miss In Lane Kiffin’s Future Or Will He Leave?

OXFORD, MS– The moment Brian Kelly’s key card at LSU and Billy Napier’s key card at Florida no longer worked, the first name that surfaced for both jobs was current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. He knows the SEC pretty well, having been a head coach at Tennessee, an offensive coordinator at Alabama under Nick Saban, and in 2020, taking the job at Ole Miss.

This season, Kiffin has guided the Rebels to an undefeated home record and is still in contention for the College Football Playoff. Known for being entertaining in sound bites and press conferences, Kiffin is a spectacular recruiter of players and has the support of Ole Miss alums and boosters. The larger question is, despite all the success he’s experienced, will he stay or depart for another program?

After a huge battle against Florida on Saturday night that resulted in a 34-24 Ole Miss win, Kiffin addressed his future, well, sort of.

I love what we’re doing here,” Kiffin told the media postgame. “Today was awesome. To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and what they did today.

Earlier in the week, he conveyed his gratitude towards Ole Miss and the players committed to his system, which has yielded successful outcomes. He’s maintained a 35-3 in The Vaught since 2021. His four 10-win seasons over the past five years are more than the team had in the previous 50 seasons combined

Some are of the opinion that he will leave Ole Miss, whereas others believe he will remain with a considerable increase in his salary.

We’ve been dealing with what people would say are distractions for weeks now. It’s different nowadays. I think kids think differently,” Kiffin explained.

For now, Kiffin is focused on finishing out the season with more wins and making a deep playoff run in the College Football Playoff.
