LOS ANGELES — An incredible light out performance on the mound from the local L.A. kid who dreamed of a moment to make an impact with the Los Angeles Dodgers, starter Jack Flaherty made his presence known in one of the most important games of the National League Championship Series (NLCS).

The Dodgers’ right-hander dominated on the mound, pitching seven scoreless innings and contributing to the team’s remarkable streak of 33 consecutive scoreless innings—that tied a National League record in postseason play dating back to 1905.

From the first pitch at Dodger Stadium, Flaherty was in complete control, mixing a lively fastball with pinpoint off-speed pitches to baffle the Mets’ lineup. His ability to change speeds and locate his pitches effectively kept the Mets off balance, allowing just four hits over his seven innings. Flaherty struck out nine batters and issued only one walk, demonstrating impeccable command and poise in a high-pressure situation.

I was just focusing on one pitch at a time, trying not to think about too much outside of executing each pitch,” Flaherty said post-game. “The defense was outstanding behind me, and it’s easy to stay locked in with such great support.

Throughout the game, the Dodgers’ defense backed Flaherty with several key plays, preserving the shutout and keeping the Mets from seizing any momentum. This defensive prowess, combined with Flaherty’s stellar pitching, not only highlighted the collective effort that has driven the Dodgers during their postseason run but also reassured the fans about the team’s overall performance.
The Dodgers’ bullpen, a strength throughout the season, continued the scoreless streak with two innings of practical relief work. Each reliever stepped in seamlessly, maintaining the pressure on the Mets and securing the victory in the series opener.

With this collective effort, the Dodgers set a new National League record for consecutive scoreless innings in the postseason, surpassing the previous mark. This accomplishment underscores their exceptional pitching depth and commitment to excellence.

Manager Dave Roberts praised his team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of setting the tone early in the series. “Jack [Flaherty] was phenomenal tonight, and the entire pitching staff has just been incredible. It’s a testament to their hard work and focus,” Roberts stated. “But we know there’s a lot of baseball left to play, and we’ll stay focused on the task at hand.

As the Dodgers look ahead to Game 2, their eyes remain firmly on the ultimate prize—another World Series championship. With Jack Flaherty anchoring their rotation and a resilient team effort behind him, the Dodgers have taken a significant step forward on their postseason journey, making the audience feel hopeful and excited about the team’s future games.

No bigger compliment and support comes stronger than Flaherty’s mother, Eileen, who has supported him from day one of his baseball career, being in the Dodger Stadium stands. After the game, he hugged his mother before heading to the clubhouse. To get a standing ovation from the home crowd as he walked off the mound in front of his mother and be able to thank her in person meant the world to him.

Walking off the mound I’m usually able to keep it together…but its hard not to smile here. I was able to give my mom a hug, the way I’ve been able to since high school…I told her thanks for being here and supporting me. It’s a dream come true.

The Dodgers’ pursuit of glory continues, but their performance in Game 1 has already carved their names into the annals of Major League Baseball history. This sets the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating series against the Mets, making the audience feel proud and connected to the team’s journey.
