LOS ANGELES, CA – James Corden is gearing up to bid adieu to the “The Late Late Show.”

The late-night talk show host and actor recently signed a one-year contract extension with CBS and is set to exit the long-running series after its upcoming 2023 season.

“It’s been it’s a really hard to decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show,” Corden said in an interview with Deadline“I’m thrilled to be extending [for a year]. I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.”

After the show’s previous host Craig Ferguson ended his nine-year run in 2014, Corden signed on to takeover and began hosting in March 2015.

As the host, Corden brought a fresh energy to the show and introduced several popular segments including “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts,” “Crosswalk Musical” and “Carpool Karaoke.”

The hit “Carpool Karaoke” segment, in which Corden drives around with famous musical guests as they sing along to their songs, has seen dozens of artists including Adele, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and more hop in the passenger seat.

“Seven years ago, James Corden came to the U.S. and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online,” CBS President and CEO George Cheeks said in a statement. “James has truly reimagined many elements of the late night format.”

In addition to becoming a late-night fixture on the small screen, Corden has also taken his talents to the big screen, appearing in films like “Into the Woods,” “Peter Rabbit,” “Cats” and “Ocean’s 8.”

During his opening monologue on Thursday night’s episode, Corden addressed his late-night viewers and discussed his upcoming exit.

“When I started this journey, it was always going to be just that. It was going to be a journey, an adventure,” Corden said. “I never saw it as my final destination…I never want this show to overstay its welcome in any way. I always want to love making it, and I really think in a year from now, that will be a good time to move on and see what else might be out there.”

“The Late Late Show With James Corden” airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
