LOS ANGELES, CA — One year after his death, Juice Wrld’s legacy continues to shine bright through his music and through those who knew him personally.
Juice Wrld, who is known for hits like “Lucid Dreams” and “Robbery”, died of an accidental overdose at the age of 21 after he suffered a seizure at the Chicago Midway Airport on Dec. 8, 2019.
As the first anniversary of his passing quickly approached, his girlfriend, Ally Lotti, took to social media to remember the rapper, whose real name was Jarad Anthony Higgins, and shared how his death has impacted her.
On Monday she tweeted, “To this day, I can not get on a plane or hear sirens – tooo triggering.”
Lotti also posted a video of herself and Juice Wrld on her Instagram where she wrote, “No way I can write anything rn. I feel each minutes of the past days n tonight like a movie from before, feeling every emotion.“
Future, who collaborated with Juice Wrld on the 2018 album “Wrld on Drugs”, paid tribute to the late rapper on Twitter and also celebrated the release of Juice’s new single “Remind Me of You,” which is a posthumous collaboration with rapper The Kid Laroi.
“Juice still dropping classics til this day. Legends Never Die,” Future wrote via Twitter.
Throughout his life, Juice Wrld released three albums and was nominated for several awards.
He nabbed the award for “Best New Artist” at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards and posthumously won the award for “Favorite Male Rap/ Hip-Hop Artist” at the 2020 American Music Awards.
Seven months after his death, Juice Wrld’s first posthumous album “Legends Never Die” was released on July 10, 2020.
On what would’ve been his 22nd birthday, his mother Carmella Wallace, posted a tribute on her son’s Instagram page on Dec. 2.
“He will forever be the light of my life,” Wallace said. “Today we celebrate him, his immense talent and creativity and his contributions to the world. Through his art, he spoke his truth.”
