LOS ANGELES — The USC Trojans destroyed the Stanford Cardinal 45-20 on Saturday night at L.A. Memorial Coliseum. Backup quarterback Kedon Slovis moved into the starter role after JT Daniels went down last week against Fresno State with an ACL injury.
Slovis finished the game on 28 of 33 attempts for 377 yards, three touchdowns in the win. He remained poised throughout the game, and was responsible for the success of Amon-Ra St. Brown who finished with two touchdowns and Tyler Vaughns who scored a touchdown.
“He was actually rooming next to me in the hotel and he looked as calm as ever,” St. Brown said. “When we got out there, he didn’t really look rattled at all. He rallied us up after each drive and said, ‘Let’s go,’ and that’s what he did tonight.”
Slovis was focused and made sure he hit his targets when it counted in the endzone .
The crowd in the student section kept chanting “Kedon Slovis” before he found Vaughns for a 16-yard touchdown that extended the USC lead by 25 points.
“For me, it was honestly … just don’t take it away from the wide receivers,” Slovis, who led the USC Marching Band in the fight song after the game, said of the win. “Just get it in their hands and let them do it.”
USC heads out on the road and faces BYU next Saturday afternoon.
