LOS ANGELES, CA — Top Dawg Entertainment artist, Grammy Award and Pulitzer Award winning artist Kendrick Lamar announced that he is recording his final album for the label he’s called home for several years.
Lamar wrote a letter regarding his decision and signed it mysteriously ‘Oklama’.
“I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence.
“I go months without a phone. Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family. While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next. As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators.“
Anthony ‘Top Dawg’ Tiffith the label’s CEO and founder responded to Lamar’s letter.
“With this being Dot’s last album on TDE, this is more of a VICTORY LAP, a celebration. I know he will be successful in whatever it is he decides to do and will have our FULL support. As for Top Dawg Entertainment, we will continue to grow, develop and and give artist the platform to into whatever way they chose.”
As we all wait for Kendrick Lamar’s final TDE album, hopefully the industry will fully appreciate the gifts that he has bestowed upon us through his music and artistry that changed the game forever. There was a line that Jay-Z rapped once that said, “who’s the best, Biggie, Jay-Z or Nas.” We can now have that discuss in the modern era on who’s the best [J.] Cole, Drake, or Kendrick.
Kendrick Lamar has won 13 Grammy Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, and the ASCAP Vanguard Award for his work as a composer.
TDE is home to Grammy Award winning artist Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, SZA, SiR, Isaiah Rashad, and Reason.
