BOSTON, MA — An exciting overtime between the Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins opened up an opportunity for Andreas Athanasiou who scored on a breakaway goal for a 3-2 revenge win on the road. Last week the Bruins schooled the Kings at Crypto.com Arena 7-0, and snapped their five game winning streak.
The Bruins never trailed throughout the game in regulation as Craig Smith scored the goal for the 2-1 lead in the second period. The Kings mounted a comeback as Trevor Moore tied the game with less than thirty seconds remaining in the 3rd period that forced overtime. Los Angeles goalie Cal Petersen stopped 30 shots as the Kings won eight out of their last 10 games.
“We got embarrassed at home,” Petersen said. “We were looking for some revenge.“
Petersen was pulled in the final minute of the third period, however the Kings won an faceoff in the zone that allowed Moore to score the tying goal.
“We found a way to get in the last few minutes of the game,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said in the win.
Los Angeles remains second in the Pacific Division behind Calgary and in fourth place overall in the Western Conference standings. The Kings return home to host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday at 7:30PM PT.
