BURBANK, CA — Legendary emcee and entrepreneur Kurupt one half of the iconic rap group Tha Dogg Pound, held a media day release for the launch of his imprint Penagon Records at a quaint yet intimate setting for media members on a breezy Friday night in Southern California.
“When I first made Penagon (Records), I really wasn’t taking it serious I was just doing it to see if it could be done,” Kurupt said. “I wanted my own label, and I was following people at the time, following Snoop (Dogg), until I could see it could be real. That’s when I started taking it serious, I had to get my health together (and) myself together; setting a proper example for any other artist who wanted to be on the label. I had to get my business together and that took time.“
Kurupt born Ricardo Brown in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has always been gifted with extreme word play and the ability to annihilate any emcee that comes into his circumference from the Death Row Records days to him being an incredible solo artist, and working with his rhyme partner and producer Daz Dillinger. Kurupt after a point of getting himself together health wise, and mentally with the proper timing in tow, this is the right moment for him to showcase and give opportunity to other West Coast artist.
“One of the main things is this is not about myself, this is more about my company,” Kurupt explained. “Being able to do the things that I love to do and place out music and put in places it needs to be in this game. It’s time for the West Coast to start hitting them with some of this West Coast sh*t that they really like and love.”
He current label deal is with Fat Beats as he prepares his second release Kurupt Presents: 7 P’s The Gotti Way coming soon. A few records off the upcoming album were played at the media day release which sounded incredible and very crisp to the ear.
He also continues to extend his business hand very strongly as he announced his other venture Kurupt Exotics which is his marijuana company home to Moonrocks and coming soon Kurupt Kush. This entrepreneur has no signs of slowing down as he discussed about the launching of Dogg Food 2 with Daz, along with heading the Back On Death Row (BODR) Tour that is scheduled to feature himself, Snoop Dogg, Daz, RBX, The Lady Of Rage, Tha Eastsidaz, Warren G., and some special guests this year.
