LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings have officially clinched a spot in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a dominant 3-0 win against the Edmonton Oilers. This victory, combined with the Calgary Flames’ loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, secures the Kings a spot in the postseason.
The Kings are 44-23-9, have 97 points in 76 games, and. They are the second team in the Pacific Division (five in the Western Conference, 10th in the NHL overall) to qualify for the playoffs.
“I think we’re used to those guys. Obviously, they’re used to us; we’ve played them enough over the past, you know, three years,” Kings captain Anze Kopitar said after the game. “Obviously, with them missing two big boys [Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl], you know. But they played tough; they certainly made us earn everything.“
Kopitar was also complimentary of the effort by goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who recorded his fifth shutout of the season with 27 saves.
“Each and every night, he gives us a chance, and obviously, that’s all you can ask from your goalie,” Kopitar said. “You know he’s been great, and you know it’s obviously nice to play in front of him.”
Kopitar stressed the importance of momentum heading into the playoffs to the media.
“There’s gonna be times in the playoffs where you got to win on the road too, so you know we have confidence in his team. Would it be nice to get off at home, oh on the road, my bad, sorry, but I mean, we’re just taking a game at a time and building our game.“
Having clinched a playoff spot, the Kings are ready to take advantage. With five regular-season games remaining, Los Angeles looks to continue improving their effectiveness into the playoffs.
