LOS ANGELES, CA — Highly anticipated rookie phenom Quinton Byfield suffered an ankle fracture injury against the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday and will be sidelined indefinitely according to the Kings.
“It was a clean hit. It was unfortunate,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said. “He went into the boards. One skate went one way and one the other. It’s in a corner. If it is in a straightaway, he would have got away with rolling off but there was nowhere to go.”
Byfield was scheduled to play either the third or fourth line in the team home opener against the Golden Knights on October 14. He played in six games for Los Angeles last season and finsihed with one assist and much NHL experience. The team had great expectations for Byfield this season who is a rising star in the league since being drafted number 2 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
He has been placed on injured reserve and will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks.
