LOS ANGELES, CA – Television and radio show host Jemele Hill (Jemele Hill Unbothered) presented the 2021 NAACP Jackie Robinson Award to the WNBPA (Womens National Basketball Players Association) during the 52nd NAACP Image Awards on Thursday night.

The award was accepted on WNBPA’s behalf by WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike.

With one of the most influential and distinguished organizations in America, engaged in the daily fight for justice and civil rights for all. As everyone know we completed a WNBA season in a bubble — or should I say Wubble,” Ogwumike said during her speech via zoom. “Although two significant and ongoing events namely the COVID19 health pandemic and the pandemic of racial and social strife challenged our season, the women of professional basketball displayed tremendous athletic prowess. On the court and as a collective we were and continue to be laser focused on the issues that matter to us and our communities off the court. The season had to be dedicated to social justice.

The ladies of the WNBA led the charge on various social justice issues including voter suppression and made their voices heard and action seen in a powerful way.
