LOS ANGELES, CA – The arrival of Liz Cambage to Los Angeles has increased the buzz around the LA Sparks. Cambage says the attention is exciting, because the team deserves it, and she is very much looking forward to the season.
Cambage says stepping into her role as a leader and a mentor on the team was very easy and she naturally wants to help the rookies.
“I’m a bit of a nurturing, low-key like mother vibes to the babies,” Cambage said. “I tend to find myself being everything I never had growing up.”
Cambage says it’s important to give rookies love and support, because she remembers how scary it was coming into the league as a kid, especially while playing in “Middle America” her rookie season playing with the then-Tulsa Shock in 2011.
Once the regular season starts, Liz feels like the Sparks will have the competitive edge saying, “no one can guard me one on one in this league,” which means if she doesn’t get to score, she is confident someone else will be open for the shot.
Tip-off for the WNBA regular season is Friday, May 6th. The Sparks will travel to Chicago for their first game of the season to face Candace Parker and the defending champion Chicago Sky.
