ATLANTA, GA – The lack of chemistry and amount of time the team has played together continues to be an issue for the Los Angeles Sparks. Going into Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Dream, the Sparks had two big road wins. Neither win was a result of the team coming out strong.
Falling behind early became an uphill battle the Sparks could not overcome on Wednesday night, but it didn’t stop the team from making a late push. With just 1:29 left in the game, and down by seven, the Sparks made a late comeback.
After missed shots by Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike in the final seconds, the Dream pulled out a 77-75 win handing the Sparks their first loss of the season.
Head coach/GM Derek Fisher says the season is still long, and it is these types of battles that will help the team find their identity.
Despite the loss, the team understands these are just growing pains and there is a lot of basketball left to play.
“A lot of us have not played together, so we are still trying to figure things out,” said guard Jordin Canada.
Canada went on to say that the team has to come out with a stronger start. She also believed the fight they showed in that late game rally is a testament to who the team is.
The Sparks will head to Connecticut to face the Sun for their fourth road game on Saturday before playing their home opener against the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, May 17th.
