BURBANK, CA — On a very hot Sunday afternoon just under the hills in Burbank, NBA Champion and host Matt Barnes decided to put together a squad that could combat Snoop Dogg’s all-star football team. The 4th annual Athletes vs Cancer flag football team host was determined to not only capture a win on the field, but continue the charge for victory in finding a cure for cancer.

The last three years, Snoop’s teams have defeated Barnes’ teams, however something different would take place this year that would give Barnes a seismic edge. After Barnes’ red team trailed Snoop’s blue team, an “interesting” substitution was made in the final quarter as former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia switched to Barnes’ team and carried them to a 43-42 victory.

Many athletes and stars came out in support of this great cause, including super fan Clipper Darrell who was the game’s PA announcer. Music artist The Game, Jordan Clarkson (Lakers), Kevin Durant (Warriors), DeAndre Jordan (Clippers), Aaron Gordon (Magic) and Dylan and Dakota Gonzalez to name a few.

Other athletes came out in support such as Tony Allen, DeMar DeRozan (Raptors), NFL running back Reggie Bush, along with Warriors teammates Javale McGee and Draymond Green.

“We’re all here to support Matt,” Green said. “That’s our guy. That’s our brother.”

Athletes vs. Cancer was started by Barnes in honor of his mother, Ann Catherine Barnes, who died of cancer in November 2007. The non-profit organization has provided support for those battling cancer and families who have been affected by the disease by offering financial grants to pay for medical bills, medications, and treatments.

There were plenty of laughs, trash talking, and highlights including Jordan skying up for a catch in the end zone for a touchdown.

The 2016 Slam Dunk champion is also a talented football player and captured the MVP trophy.

“This MVP trophy is right up there with the dunk contest one,” Gordon said smiling.

The last time he played football was in junior high school. A great turn out for all of the fans as many of the players and entertainers slapped hands and signed autographs for fans.

2017 has been a magical year for Barnes, not only did he capture his first NBA title as a member of the Warriors, and defeated Snoop’s team for the first time, but scored another point in the quest to defeat cancer for good one day.
