LOS ANGELES, CA – One day removed from Maverick City’s outdoor performance and the city is still on a spiritual high. This week Maverick City and Kirk Franklin partnered with LA Mission for a “Music Matters” event on Skid Row. The Grammy Award-winning gospel group would perform live for one of Los Angeles’ most impoverished communities. Free on-site showers were available, essential supplies were given, food truck vendors were present, there were giveaways, and much more.
The fellowship would illuminate the plight of the homeless in a city that is known for its glamour, cachet, and star power. Less than two miles away from the Crypto.com Arena which is worth $700 million, there are thousands of people who require shelter, food, resources, and hope.
Through musicianship, hope, healing, smiles and breakthroughs were delivered. In the past LA Mission has served 629,503 meals, 70,075 nights of safe shelter, and 82,036 showers were provided.
The crowd would sing every lyric of “Melodies from Heaven,” a popular tune composed by Franklin. The gospel group would emphasize how privileged they were, fellowship with the community, and how to perform in front of 12,000 people at Crypto.com Arena. A night prior couldn’t surpass this experience and impact.
“I’m honored to be here with them. Honored to be able to support this moment and show them the love they richly deserved,” said Franklin shortly after his performance.
“The church is the hope of the world, and the only way we’re the hope of the world is if we’re giving back,” added Brandon Lake, musician and band singer.
It is with great hope that the underserved communities in Los Angeles will soon improve.
