NEW YORK, NY — Former ESPN MLB reporter Marly Rivera was relieved of her reporting duties after a TMZ Sports video surfaced of her calling another reporter Ivon Gaete a “f**king c**t” while the two were on the field at Yankee Stadium.
Rivera who was visibility upset made the comment to Gaete because she believed Gaete stepped in front of her for an exclusive interview MLB superstar and Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. It was later discovered that Gaete is the wife of MLB Communications executive John Blundell. In the TMZ video, Rivera was seen telling Gaete in Spanish that she was bothering the Yankees slugger during an autograph session with some young fans on the field.
Rivera is no stranger to having a spicy disposition, as she was apart of another incident with a Latino reporter and reportedly called her a “fake Hispanic”. Anonymous reporters told the Washington Post that Rivera got into another verbal altercation with a reporter taking photos of Lationo baseball players and as a result, Rivera allegedly called the reporter a “white b***h”.
“She no longer works here,” ESPN told The New York Post in a statement.
Rivera attempted to clean up the incident, however it was too late as the damage had already been done.
“I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have. There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions. I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements.“
Rivera has also disabled her social media accounts.
