LOS ANGELES, CA — Writer, director and producer Tyler Perry and Netflix have formed a creative partnership that will allow him to produce, write and direct films under a multi-year first-look deal.
Perry currently has two film projects already int he work with Netflix thus far. His latest film schedule to be released, “Six Triple Eight” the inspiring true story of the 6888th Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas during World War II. It stars Kerry Washington who also serves as the film’s producer, with a dynamic cast cast that includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Jeanté Godlock, Moriah Brown, and Oprah Winfrey.
“Netflix has been an incredible partner to work with, and so is Amazon. It’s been really, really, really incredible, and that’s all I’ll say about it,” Perry told the media.
Another film Perry is set to launch under the new deal is Mea Culpa — starring and produced by Kelly Rowland. The basis of the film centers on a criminal defense attorney who, in the hopes of becoming partner, however takes on the case of an artist who could be guilty of murder.
Perry’s previous films with Netflix include A Jazzman’s Blues, a sweeping tale of forbidden love that made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), A Madea Homecoming, and A Fall from Grace.
Perry is also gearing up for his documentary Maxine’s Baby, which tells the story of his abusive upbringing to him being homeless, to becoming a billionaire media and film mogul. Before it’s November 17 world release on Prime Video, it will be screened at the 2023 AFI Feat on Friday October 27 in Hollywood.
