CHICAGO, IL — Controversial rapper, producer and creator Kanye West has never enter the entertainment scene doing things normal, and this latest installment attaching West’s name to it will be no different.
Netflix released a three-part documentary entitled “Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” will debut on February 16. The documentary is a collection of footage by directors Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah over the course of West’s 21-year career.
“Me and Fest got into argument, God I feel like he disrespected me, man. Say I wasn’t a genius yet,” West said in the teaser as he looked into the camera. “But who are you to call yourself a genius,” Rhymefest asked.
According to reports, Netflix paid approximately $30 million for the doc, as the film did not creatively involve West himself.
“Filmmakers Coodie and Chike have created an extraordinary film and we’re honored that they have trusted TIME Studios to produce jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy,” TIME Studios President Ian Orefice said in a press release on Monday. “We’re excited to partner with Iconic Events Releasing to give the world a chance to first experience the once in a generation storytelling in theaters.”
Iconic Events Releasing CEO Steve Bunnell was said to have loved the documentary and is excited for the world to view it.
“Through his work as a performer, producer, and entrepreneur, few artists or businessmen have had a greater impact on worldwide popular culture than Kanye West over the last twenty years,” Bunnell said in a statement.
