LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley hasn’t seen preseason action since 2017 where he played two games and was held out until the regular season began. Gurley is coming off a knee injury that sidelined him from participating in the final two regular season games last season. Gurley managed to appear in Super Bowl LIII against the New England Patriots but was not fully effective.

Head coach Sean McVay keeps a close eye on Gurley to ensure he remains healthy to maximize results on the field this season. Gurley had no problem not participating in the preseason and didn’t practice with the team until Training Camp began in July.

I honestly like it especially that we changed the rule from the 53-man roster and just keeping everybody and making that roster cuts after the final preseason game,” Gurley said on Monday. “It kind of felt like guys had to play back in the day because of numbers. I feel like it gives the younger guys a lot more opportunities to make plays, go out there.”

Most NFL coaches at least would give a few series to their starters especially in the final preseason game, but McVay is not concerned about any rust or chemistry with his starters. McVay operated the same way last preseason with his starters.

Gurley should be ready for the season opener against the Panthers in Carolina on Sept 8 at 10 AM PT.
