SEATTLE, WA – Forget the picturesque Pacific Northwest scenery, the Ohio State Buckeyes rolled into a hostile Seattle environment on Saturday night and delivered an absolute masterclass, laying down a dominant 24-6 annihilation of the Washington Huskies. This wasn’t just a significant win, it was a statement! The Buckeyes captured their first Big Ten win of the season, and perhaps more importantly, maintained their pristine undefeated record, solidifying their standing as the number one team in the country.

The tone was set early, showcasing the potent blend of young talent and veteran savvy that defines this Ohio State squad. Just moments into the first quarter, freshman quarterback Julian Sayin, cool as ice, found wide receiver Jeremiah Smith for a phenomenal 18-yard touchdown pass, giving the Buckeyes an immediate 7-3 lead. It was a play that screamed “future is now” and hinted at the fireworks to come.

As the game wore on, the Buckeyes’ offensive line started to assert its will, something no other team had managed against Washington this season. Entering the game, giving up just 62 rushing yards per game, the Huskies were bulldozed.

In the second half, running back CJ Donaldson proved unstoppable, plowing his way into the endzone for a crucial 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter, extending Ohio State’s lead. Not content with just one, Donaldson later showed his versatility late in the fourth, catching a 4-yard pass from Sayin for his second touchdown, putting the exclamation mark on a comprehensive offensive effort. Sayin himself finished the night with a solid 208 yards and two touchdowns.

But if the offense set the pace, the defense absolutely shut the door. Washington’s high-flying attack was grounded for three quarters, totaling just 234 yards. This defensive lockdown was due in large part to an absolutely monstrous performance by Caden Curry. The defensive linchpin was everywhere, racking up an incredible 11 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks. It was the kind of dominant individual defensive effort that turns the tide of a game.

After the game, Head Coach Ryan Day was quick to praise his team’s composure in such a challenging atmosphere.

“I think it’s a great reference point to come into a stadium like this,” Day said. “This is a great environment. I thought that the fans on their end were loud and showed up in a big way.

Curry, still buzzing from his tremendous effort, perfectly encapsulated the defensive unit’s mindset.

You love to see the pressure put on you as a defensive line,” he said. “I feel like our defensive line this year is just a bunch of no-names. We just go out there, we just try to ball, we try to play as hard as we can.

It’s a realistic assessment for a unit that’s clearly playing with a chip on its shoulder and a collective determination to prove itself.

The Buckeyes are now bringing this momentum back to Columbus, where they will welcome the Minnesota Golden Gophers next Saturday, October 4. With a strong display on both offense and defense in a challenging away setting, Ohio State has demonstrated that they are not only prepared for the season; they are poised to excel in it.
