Oxford, MS – Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss showcased an impressive performance, throwing for two touchdowns and adding another on the ground, leading the Ole Miss Rebels to a hard-fought 24-21 victory over the Washington State Cougars on Saturday.
After a sluggish start in the first quarter, Ole Miss finally discovered their offensive rhythm following an early 47-yard field goal. The Rebels capitalized on this momentum as Dae’Quan Wright caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Chambliss, that gave Ole Miss a 10-7 lead in the second quarter.
Despite this shift in momentum, the game remained a closely contested affair. Ole Miss found itself trailing 14-10 late in the third quarter, facing their first significant challenge of the season. However, Chambliss responded with a 17-yard touchdown scramble, energizing the Ole Miss offense and reclaiming the lead.
“Overall, he did some good things, obviously with the scramble touchdown, but he did not play consistently like he had,” Kiffin said about Chambliss’s performance. “It is what it is, and you’re not going to play perfectly every week, and he still completed 20 of 29 passes with two touchdowns.“
Chambliss then linked up with Cayden Lee for a 35-yard touchdown pass, extending the Rebels’ lead to 24-14. The Ole Miss ground game also played a vital role in the victory, with Kewan Lacy carrying the offense effectively. Lacy concluded the day with an impressive 24 carries for 142 yards.

“Probably the one player who stood out on what was not really a good day for the team,” Kiffin said regarding Lacy. “Electric energy, making defenders miss, and he had another excellent run that was called back for a holding penalty, showcasing a tremendous effort. If we all played with that level of effort today, we wouldn’t be feeling this way. Once again, we survived.”
Ole Miss continues to uphold its undefeated record, improving to 6-0 this season. The Rebels will encounter a significant challenge as they head to Athens on October 18 to face the Georgia Bulldogs.
