THOUSAND OAKS, CA — Day two of the 2020 NFL Draft brought the Los Angeles Rams some much needed gifts on Friday afternoon. Yes the Rams brought in Cam, but it’s not the former quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, instead it’s a brilliant running back from Florida State that seems to fit perfect in head coach Sean McVay’s new offense.

Despite the obstacles of not having a solid offensive line at Florida State or adequate coaching, Akers still got the job done on the ground. The former high school quarterback, and power running back has great vision, and is a tough downhill runner. With the departure of Todd Gurley, the Rams need another powerful running back to go along with Darrell Henderson who is projected to be the starter this coming season.

There are many strengths Akers has for the new offense that should provide the Rams offense with great opportunities this year with Jared Goff under center.

I think I bring a three-down, a four-down back if necessary,” Akers said. “I’m somebody who can come in and be a game changer. Be everything this team and the fans need me to be and everything they’re expecting me to be.”

One of the many attributes GM Les Snead saw was Akers’ ability to seize moments on the field with no excuses.

He runs like a warrior, he runs angry, he runs like he wants to punish a defense,” Snead explained in a video chat with the media. “One of the things you really appreciate about him is, they struggled a little bit at Florida State these last few years, wasn’t as stout upfront on the OL. He was one of their better players. A lot of teams went into those ACC match ups saying, ‘We’ve got to stop that man.’”

Akers was not only the hardest working running back at FSU but probably in the ACC in the last three years.

Akers finished his career at Florida State with 586 carries, 2,864 yards, seven receiving touchdowns, along with 483 receiving yards. He is another weapon that Goff can utilize in the offense that will take some pressure off. This young man is on course to have a very productive career, could he be another Marshall Faulk at the position?
