LOS ANGELES — Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many Southern California residents are struggling to acquire food and supplies to stay prepared. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff and lineman Andrew Whitworth have partnered with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the United Way are funding 2 million meals. Both Goff and Whitworth are each financing 1 million meals through $250,000 donations to the L.A. Regional Food Bank.
“There are so many people in need right now and we want to do everything we can to help our Los Angeles community,” Goff said. “My hope is that we can inspire others to support organizations like the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and United Way’s Pandemic Relief Fund as we come together to face this crisis.”
Goff, Whitworth, and the Rams have always been a staple in the communities across Southern California, whether through refurbishing schools, disaster relief, holiday festivals, or welcoming children back for a new school year.
“Tough times, like what we’re experiencing now, really show you the true value and importance of community,” Whitworth said. “We’re here to wrap our arms around our hurting neighbors, let them know that they aren’t forgotten, and that we are here for them.”
Both players’ donations will serve as the lead gifts to help kick off the Rams’ “The ’LA’thon for Los Angeles” fundraiser in partnership with KABC network. The virtual telethon will take place on Tuesday, March 24 from 4:00 AM – 7:00 PM PT to help raise funds for United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ (UWGLA’s) Pandemic Relief Fund and the Regional Food Bank.
It’s great to see athletes give back and truly take an interest in their respective communities, especially during this time of crisis.
