INGLEWOOD, CA — After returning to Los Angeles over five years ago, Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke vowed to make the team not only competitive, but to build a Super Bowl contender. On Sunday Kroenke and his team achieved just that by mounting a late fourth quarter comeback that allowed the franchise to capture their second championship in team history, and moved Los Angeles closer to being a Rams town as well.
The team went all in on trading for quarterback Matthew Stafford, traded for linebacker Von Miller and acquired wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. mid season, which paid off huge returns. Beckham scored the team first touchdown in the Super Bowl, and was literally unstoppable against the Cincinnati Bengals secondary, until he suffered a bizarre knee injury late in the second quarter that ultimately sidelined him for the game. Beckham finished with two receptions for 52 yards for the game.
Rams trailed 20-16 to the Bengals late in the fourth quarter, that drive defined Stafford’s legacy on if he would rise to the challenge or come up short. Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp proved why he was the game’s MVP as he came up with the biggest catch of his career that led to the team’s victory at their home stadium at SoFi Stadium. Rams defeat the Bengals 23-20 as the team hoisted up the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy.
