INGLEWOOD, CA — The Los Angeles Rams officially kicked off the season in their new $5 billion SoFi Stadium on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, with no fans. Not only did Brown score the stadium’s very first touchdown, but added another one later in the game for the 20-17 Rams victory.
“We had a good gameplan going in,” Brown said. “If those guys call my number, I just got to be ready. That’s my mindset, that’s going to stay my mindset throughout the year.”
Brown finished the day with 18 carries for 79 yards and recorded his first multi touchdown game of his career. The six year veteran running back described the feeling of being on the field as exciting and really gave credit to his offensive line for allowing him the opportunity to play well.
“We felt like Malcolm is such a big, important part of our gameplan, but he was going to get a lot of opportunities in those later-down situations,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said.
Brown played over half the snaps in the game along with rookie Cam Akers who also contributed greatly in his debut.
“Sometimes you gotta step into this league and play a role. I was very aware of it. That’s what I tell a lot of guys coming in – it may not be the circumstance you want, but you last long enough and do what you need to do throughout your years in this league, and something will spark. An opportunity came, and I was able to just do what I had to do.”
He also revealed that his friendship with former Ram and current Atlanta Falcon running back Todd Gurley still supports him and sent him well wishes for the season.
Brown and the Rams prepare this week for the Eagles on the road in Philadelphia next Sunday.
