THOUSAND OAKS, CA — After a brilliant debut on Sunday night for the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Matthew Stafford was announced as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.
“It’s a nice thing, but it’s one week,” Stafford said. “It’s one game – played plenty of good games in my career, played plenty of bad ones.”
Stafford has been quite the popular guy around Los Angeles, as he and his wife Kelly took in a Dodgers game on Tuesday night to see his old friend Clayton Kershaw return to the mound in superior fashion. Dodger fans were excited to see him in the stands after putting on a masterful performance in week one.
“It was cool to go see Clayton [Kershaw] do his thing. It was good to see him back out there. I know he’s been battling some stuff to get back out there and play. I know we had fun doing that, so I was proud of him. He played great.“
He also got a chance to not only watch the Dodgers get a win but watch his friend pitch live on the mound.
“I’ve watched him live a bunch of times as a kid from behind the plate,” he said. “That was a lot of fun, but I haven’t seen him throw live a bunch. He looked good to me. I know a couple of months off it’s tough to kind of knock the rust off, but he did a nice job.”
Stafford and the Rams are now focused on week two against the Colts on the road, and looks to keep up the momentum going and clean up the mistakes that were made against the Chicago Bears.
“There were just some plays in the game that I wish I was a little bit better on, wish I was a little bit more calmer in the pocket on a few where I could’ve just kept progressing and getting to get into a different guy and just finding the completion. I think there were a couple that didn’t get completed that I think I could have and obviously continue to just try and hit the open guys when they’re open.”
