THOUSAND OAKS, CA — On Monday Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford took part in the team’s OTA’s at their facility with his new teammates.
Stafford emphasized how focused he is to learning the new offense and head coach Sean McVay along with developing chemistry with his teammates.
“It’s giving me the chance to be on the field and calling plays and going against our defense a little bit,” Stafford said. “Just above-the-neck stuff, being able to work the mental aspect of the game. So that part of it has been great for me. … I feel like everybody is figuring out what works best for them as an organization, and I feel like we’ve accomplished that.“
He also explained how he felt a sense of urgency from his new teammates which is a plus as he hopes they felt the same from him. Stafford is the new leader of this team and while under center he’ll have quite a bit to prove with the level of expectations pretty high this season.
“Obviously the physically part of is great right now, getting to be able to throw and catch and work with the guys,” he said. “The biggest things at the quarterback position is get these mental reps and get in and out of the huddle. Learn the new terminology and see our plays develop verses different defenses.“
Stafford is excited about playing along side wide receivers Desean Jackson, rookie Tutu Atwell, Van Jefferson, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. The best part is Stafford connecting with head coach Sean McVay who continues to compose the playbook.
“He’s obviously a high-energy guy. He loves the game. The biggest thing for me so far is I’ve got the same guy every single day.“
A high powered offense led by Stafford followed by a solid defense and incredible special teams could pay dividends in the long run this season.
