IRVINE, CA — Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp abruptly exited practice on Tuesday evening after a reported hamstring injury according to Rams spokesperson. Kupp left the field after a play and did not return to practice.
Head coach Sean McVay at a post practice press conference admitted he was still looking to gain more information on Kupp’s injury.
“I’m not sure. I haven’t talked to those guys yet, so I don’t know,” McVay said. “He looked like he came up a little bit in a red zone route and then I just knew they told me he was out for practice. I have no more information than that.”
Kupp came into Training Camp healthy and ready for competition, after he played only nine game last season due to a high ankle sprain. When healthy he is one of the most lethal receivers in the NFL, and causes problems for opposing defenses and confuses defensive coordinators. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford explained how much enjoyed having time with his receivers in Kupp and Van Jefferson in order to develop that chemistry and timing preparing for the upcoming season.
Stafford was asked if saw the injury or had any additional information regarding the status of Kupp moving forward.
“I just wanted to know what’s going on,” Stafford said. “That’s the biggest thing and I’ll figure that out at some point but I trust our guys and whatever’s going on, I know that he will do everything he can to work through whatever’s going on and be back out here whenever that’s the right time.”
After an MRI was conducted on Kupp, it was revealed that he could be miss weeks of playing time on the field, however according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and his source Kupp could be back for scrimmages in a few weeks. The team will be cautious with the young receiver moving forward as they enter the 2023 regular season.
